Description
On behalf of the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being, we would like to invite you to join us for the fourth installment of the Well-Being University (WBU) Reading Group, which is open to all Mason Faculty and Staff.
The WBU Reading Group will meet on six occasions during the fall of 2015 and will discuss Kelly McGonigal’s The Upside of Stress: Why Stress is Good for You, and How to Get Good at It.
We hope you will join us for what is sure to be a good conversation around a topic we are - perhaps - all too familiar with. If you attended the most recent Leading to Well-Being conference, you might recall that Kelly McGonigal was one of the keynote speakers.
The Amazon.com description of the book includes the following:
More than forty-four percent of Americans admit to losing sleep over stress. And while most of us do everything we can to reduce it, Stanford psychologist and bestselling author Kelly McGonigal, Ph.D., delivers a startling message: Stress isn’t bad. In The Upside of Stress, McGonigal highlights new research indicating that stress can, in fact, make us stronger, smarter, and happier—if we learn how to embrace it.
The Upside of Stress is the first book to bring together cutting-edge discoveries on the correlation between resilience—the human capacity for stress-related growth—and mind-set, the power of beliefs to shape reality.
The Center for the Advancement of Well-Being will purchase the books for participants who commit to the six meetings. Please register by Wednesday, September 16th:
The meetings will be held in the JC Room E from 12-12:45 on the following dates:
Wednesday, September 30th
Wednesday, October 7th
no meeting on October 14th

Specific reading assignments will be given for sessions one through five. We will devote the final session to screening Kelly McGonigal’s Ted Talk.
